I had the most wonderful day learning about, and making sourdough bread at Red Beard Bakery. Alan shares his passion and is very knowledgeable about his craft. He is a great teacher and I learnt so much. I loved being in the back kitchen with the beautiful Scotch oven, the large timber table, linen couches hanging above and oven paddles over my head. We were welcomed with fruit buns and coffee and they were delicious, warm from the oven. Our lunch was superb and thank you to the staff who were so welcoming and took great care of us. We got to take home the bread we made (and there was plenty) plus a bag of stone ground flour and the recipes with our notes. Thank you for a very memorable day!
What a great day - learnt so much, hands on, fun and inspiring. The setting in the bakery with the old scotch oven, it's history and the current working bakery are a real credit to Allan, John and their family. Staff were friendly, morning tea, coffee and lunch provided were delicious. Thanks again.
The Red Beard team has pretty much perfected this workshop. Alan was knowledgeable, helpful and engaging. I left with all my questions answered. More than that, it was just a fabulously fun day. Morning tea and lunch were delicious and the staff so willing to make teas and coffees for the participants. I would highly recommend this to anyone who's had a go at sourdough and wants to improve their skills and anyone who's never touched it before. Alan managed to cater for all of us.
