This was one of the best workshops I have ever attended. John is incredibly passionate about his craft and provides you with an abundance of information including the history, science and skill of this old passed down tradition. John is so encouraging of each participant and you get to experience every aspect of the craft. We were looked after from the moment we arrived by the wonderful, kind and happy staff. We were provided with delicious baked morsels throughout the day and a sensational lunch. We walked away from the day with an abundance of baked breads and other goodies. We were full of information and left feeling so contented. It was above and beyond my expectations I couldn't have expected anything more. Such a wonderful experience at such a historic venue and town.
An excellent workshop, very highly recommended. You'll not only learn to make sourdough bread that is just perfect, but faddish practices are debunked, the history and function of the glorious Scotch oven is explored, and you can also be induced to think about the greater context around the ethics of baking. The workshop is very detailed, exciting at every step, and John is basically as good a tutor as you'll ever get, in anything you've ever decided to learn about.
Awesome, in depth workshop learning about all elements of making sourdough at home. John really demystifies the process and makes it really accessible - it's not about being fashionable and "Insta-worthy", it's about using your own hands and outstanding quality ingredients to make real, nutrious food. Such a privilege to be able to spend the whole day with such an expert in his craft, in such a beautiful, historic venue. Lots of getting your hands dirty (literally!) in the dough and heaps of tips and tricks were provided.
We were sent home with lots of amazing bread, and lots of curiosity to try it our for ourselves at home.
